DFF: Did Tee like Non?
Tumblr media
This horrifying theory is dedicated to @slayerkitty and @peatbogbody (you're welcome😆)
Tumblr media
Tee gets upset that Jin is touching White in a romantic way while acting. This could just be Tee being a red flag boyfriend. The way he talks to White later about this suggests he's a bit controlling. But...what if he also was a love rival with Jin in the past and he's worried it'll happen again with White. And what if their rivalry was over Non?
This is admittedly a shoe-string theory that I don't think I'd want, cause look how quickly he took advantage of Non when he realized he could. But let's lay out the evidence:
Tumblr media
From their first interaction, Tee seems unnerved being around Non. He avoids looking at him, only stealing glances. And the show focuses on these looks more than one would expect. Is this disgust like Top and Por express, or is he grappling with attraction he is trying to hide from himself and others?
Tumblr media
After Jin praises Non, Tee is quick to criticize. We know he's grumpy and cynical, but he also doesn't tend to offer his opinion much when it comes to the details of the project after this point. Perhaps he sees and feels threatened by Jin's immediate understanding of Non.
Tumblr media
I bet it is frustrating huh Tee 😉
Tumblr media
He positions himself so that he is only glancing at Non. His back to him makes him less vulnerable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He glances slightly irritated at Por and Top as they harass Non. But agrees when they say he should come to cram school. It's hard to know what's going on in his head. Either way he still remains a silent bystander stealing glances. Does he agree cause he's going along with the group? Or because it means more time around Non?
Tumblr media
Color time!!! Fluke, Top, and Por are all in shades of blue and grey. Jin is in yellow and white, showing how he doesn't follow the others perhaps. But look at Tee. His shirt has some blue but is red and white. Another outlier?
Tumblr media
But, Non's color is red.
Tumblr media
Here he's wearing a shirt with blue, trying to fit in, but when he raises his hand we can see that it has red on it still along with his bracelet. And Tee is matching him. Likely this represents their shared financial struggles and the fact that Tee will be dragging Non into trouble. But it could also indicate a growing attraction on Tee's part.
We have the three primary colors: Blue (Top, Por, Fluke), Yellow (Jin), Red (Non and Tee)
Tumblr media
Once again we have the group in street close rather than uniforms. Top, Por, and Fluke are in blue and grey again. Non has green which is close to blue but not quite a match (he can't quite fit). Jin is also once again in yellow and white. It's a bit darker so perhaps a bit closer to the shade of green Non has on, but not quite enough to read as a match. On the other hand, Tee is wearing red and blue. The blue pairs with the rest of the bullies but the red matches Non's sweater and backpack.
Tumblr media
Then after we get a shot of Non smiling (and Jin smiling back), Tee turns away like it's too much and gives us this very Kiyoi reaction. Ah his smile is too bright must disparage him and these feelings. He's even got a little catch phrase now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again these looks could mean a lot of things but could one of those things be a little jealousy perhaps?
Tumblr media
We get another shot that focuses on Tee stealing a glance at Non. It was too hard to get a screenshot but his eyes flicker up as Non passes. This is just before the camera is brought in, so Tee presumably isn't yet eyeing Non as a serious target for his uncle since he thinks he can get the money he needs from the film tickets. Still, I remind you, shoe string. This could just be him refusing to open up to Non being in the group or him considering but not actively pursuing Non as a target.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here we have a nice parallel. The shot from episode 6 is clearly out of context so take it with a grain of salt. But the parallel is interesting.
So will Tee develop true feelings for Non now that he'll be spending more time with him? In either case, he's still doing awful things to him and is not getting off my shit list that easily.

So, one of the medications that Non is taking is 1mg of Lorazepam (Ativan). Usually it’s used to treating anxiety disorders and sleeping disorders
Some of the more serious side effects/withdrawals are hallucinations, delusions, and unusual mood changes.
Medication tampering isn’t an unheard of trope when it comes to slasher films. Did someone switch his meds to fuck with him? Were they drinking during the first time they went to Por’s vacation home? Alcohol and Lorazepam are two depressants that shouldn’t be mixed, since it can also cause hallucinations, delusions, blackouts, impaired memory and unusual moods.
Curious to see if they reveal the other medications Non has been taking.

Okay so I've been thinking about the Non x Phee x Jin situation.
First of all, even if Jin wasn't originally someone Non saw as an actual enemy, Jin being someone Non was with when he passed out and then presumably woke up in a dangerous situation that Jin allowed his friends to put him in, probably made Non acknowledge that nobody, including Jin, cared enough about him to stop Tee from just kidnapping him.
Second, imagine if Non is alive. Imagine going through something awful and Jin is complecent in it. You are somewhere in the shadows, waiting for the possibility to have a home where people will love you or at least where you will feel safe. But your parents are dead and nobody is waiting for you anymore.
You finally come out of hiding and find out that the person you loved with all of your heart, that wanted to save you from those evil boys, is now sleeping with the enemy. In fact he isn't just sleeping with him but also loves him.
That is a betrayel that I don't think I'd recover from. It's one thing to move on from Non. It's another to move on with Jin. This isn't anti Jin. This is simply how I would feel from Nons point of view. Even if Phee doesn't know the extent of Jin's involvement, it doesn't mean that there won't be repercussions for being with Jin.
Also, Non wouldn't have anyway of knowing that Phee is there to investigate his disappearance. So Non would have to fill in the blanks with his imagination. And I'm sure he is gonna assume that everyone just moved on together while siding with the enemy. This boy would never assume people actually love him and were doing something for him. He's gonna assume the worst.
Idk if Non is alive but this whole situation is sure to end with either everyone dead or unhappy and traumatized.

Prologue: Non was not 'cheating' and Jin was wrong to film the video.
Now, with that said, I find it FASCINATING that there is very little discussion on Phee's reaction to finding out about Non and Keng. Because it's very clear that Phee is hurt and views this as Non cheating on him.
Last night I posted the video where Copper talks about Jin's motivations in taking the video, and one of the things that he mentions is that Jin had thought of Non as a good person, and when he sees Non with Keng he's shocked that he's cheating on his boyfriend. This is part of what leads him to record the two.
This has made some people even angrier and they have said that this makes things worse because Non isn't cheating so how dare Jin think this way, obviously he should know it's SA, etc.
Now again, I agree that Non isn't cheating, but if we're all agreed on that then it brings me back to that same question above - why is Jin torn apart for this thought process, but Phee isn't?
Again: set aside 'but Jin took the video' because I already agree that this is wrong.
But if we're vilifying Jin for thinking that in addition to the video, why is Phee not being vilified for his words to Non, and the fact that he followed that up by telling Non to disappear and die?
I could see people excusing it because Phee loves Non, but... I don't know. Isn't it almost worse for someone who cares about Non so deeply to react this way and use those words against him? I always find it a bit strange when people use love to justify horrible behaviour, because I kind of feel like love actually means you should be held to a higher standard, not lower.
(I want to pause here to say that I am both a Phee and Jin defender and I don't hate either of them. My intention here isn't to shit on Phee in order to defend Jin. In my personal opinion this is meant to be a painfully accurate depiction of how the world actually reacts to situations like this, by the way. We see it in the social media comments, in Phee's reaction, Jin's reaction, Non's parents. The world is not kind to those who are abused, and DFF is illustrating that with painful detail.)
Now for me personally, I think it's possible - I don't know how likely - but it's possible that this parallel could come up later. Because I'm sure that Phee bears regrets for his words, the same as Jin regrets his actions with the video. And I'm wondering if it's possible that the two of them will understand each other more than people think that they will. They may not, but will Phee hear an echo of himself if Jin confesses that he was so angry that Non was cheating on his boyfriend that he took the video?
Of course it's definitely plausible that Phee will simply be angry, which I could certainly understand. Not only is it horror but it's also understandable if Phee's anger over the video overrides everything else, so anything goes - and it could be that he knows nothing of what Jin has done and is furious and heartbroken when he finds out. It's also possible that if he's in it for revenge, this just cements how he feels.
At any rate, I'd like to see the show touch on this again - both Phee's words, and Jin's actions. Ideally I'd like to see it come up when the two of them are talking to each other, because I think that there are more similarities here than people realize at first look. Whether it is a point of mutual understanding or a point that escalates Phee's fury is something that we'd have to way and see.

Before the last episode airs, I have one more wildly silly prediction—
Despite all the back and forth about genre expectations, DFF will prove in the end to be a BL. All the couples will survive.

Note
I’ve seen some wild theories out there about how Phee and Jin are going to end. I personally think that either they are both killers and planned this out and get away with it scott free or they both sadly die.
White and Tee seems much more straightforward. Tee is marked for death (imo), it’s just a matter of how he dies. Will he still be selfish or self -sacrificing?
What are your theories/speculations about how the couples might end up?
I'm so glad you asked me nonnie because I have a lot of thoughts in no cohesive order and wasn't sure where to put them 😂
I don't know if I really have a theory or speculation more that I have a lot of pieces of a puzzle that don't quite make a picture yet. I've seen a lot of theories and speculation around Phee and Jin in particular as well and I'm not entirely sure if I can yet predict what direction the show is going to go in because we still have a lot of unanswered questions about them. So let me start with Tee and White.
I think there are 2 possibilities for Tee and White at this point. Either they both die, or they both live but they break up. And that's because White shows so much horror to any of Tee's even small suggestions of crime, and he defends Tee to Tan and Phee when they talk about thinking that the original crew did something to Non.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we take White at face value, he seems like a good kid and I think if he found out what Tee did to Non he wouldn't be able to conscience it and would have to break up, even if Tee genuinely loves him (and I believe Tee does).
There is always the possibility that White is more than he appears (you've all probably seen me speculate that White could be Non's brother New) but given what we know about him so far, that's what I can see happening, unless there's some reveal about his character that we haven't seen yet.
So, now for Phee and Jin.
I'll make it no secret that I really want them to end up together, so that is likely coloring my analysis of events. But as of right now I just... don't really have a prediction for how things will end between them. I've seen speculation ranging from Phee is using Jin for revenge and will kill him, to Phee is there to protect Jin from someone else seeking vengeance and truly, I don't have enough information to make a prediction. Here's what I can say about them tho.
I don't think that Jin is hiding some deep, manipulative streak. I was on the fence at first, but then a scene in episode 4 tipped me over the edge. And it's the one where Jin is with his friends, talking about how they'd won the film contest, and while he's there, he defends Non and credits him for their sucess.
Tumblr media
If Jin was trying to manipulate Non or use him in any way, then why defend him in this moment when Non is nowhere around, and will never hear about it? To me that's a pretty huge sign that Jin is genuinely kind, because he risks upsetting his friends to defend a person who isn't even there.
There's always the possibility that Jin can betray Non, of course. I've also written a meta about how Jin calls himself a coward when he's talking to Phee, and I still wonder if part of the reason he views himself that way is because of whatever happened to Non before he disappeared. If he feels like he did something cowardly or abandoned Non, or should've stood up for him more, or something along those lines. But I can't see a deep, malicious, manipulative betrayal coming from him.
And that leads to Phee, who we all assume is seeking revenge. Though there's an equally likely plotline that he's there trying to figure out what happened to Non, we don't know yet. There's still so much about Phee that we don't know. Why he's been with the friend group for so long, what's his angle for approaching Jin, if he's a murderer or caught up in the mayhem somehow. But currently I don't think that Phee is trying to trick Jin only to betray him later, for one simple reason.
Because they were fuckbuddies.
That might sound like a stupid reason, but bear with me. If Phee was really trying to hurt Jin as revenge for whatever happened with Non, why would he keep Jin at arms length by saying they're "just friends" over and over?
Tumblr media
It would be significantly bigger of a betrayal for Phee to become Jin's boyfriend and then later betray and kill him. If that's what Phee was after, then why would he half-ass it that way? Why push him away?
I feel like there's gotta be something deeper there than simple revenge. Especially when compounded with the fact that we haven't seen Jin do anything nasty to Non.
I think my money is currently (and very tentatively) on Phee genuinely protecting Jin because Jin was good to Non and doesn't deserve the havoc being wreaked on the others, especially since Phee has gone out of his way to save Jin's life already.
As for their ending... I don't know yet. I think that if the writers really want to break our hearts they'll have Phee and Jin genuinely love each other and one will die trying to save the other. But it kind of depends, it's hard to say at this point in the show because we've only had one major character death so far. I don't know how far the writers are going to go in the end, if they intend to kill almost everyone or only the ones who "deserve it."
Thanks for the question nonnie, hopefully you don't mind the novel I left in reply for you! As the story unfolds I'm sure you'll get more character analyses and speculations from me but currently I'm a big fat ❓ over what is going to happen with Phee and Jin. And that's on purpose, of course. So we'll just have to see how it all plays out, I guess!

Wild Ass Theory - IT'S ABOUT TYME!
As much as I think Tyme is coding on that table in the first episode, I believe both of them are dying, and it would make sense that Great is on the table coding at the exact time that Tyme gets shot since that's what we were shown, which could mean they end up here as some sort of limbo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because at first, I thought maybe they'd go on a little vacay together, but we only have eight episodes to bake this biscuit, so . . .
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tyme wants to stay in limbo but Great knows neither can, especially Tyme who needs to survive, and when Great is banging on the door in the trailer, it's Great's apartment that he is in because the paintings and pool table are there but Great is missing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the biggest WTF is in the first episode scene when Tyme is shot, it's raining on him,
Tumblr media
Just like it is in the hallway from the trailer.
Tumblr media
TYME NEEDS TO LIVE!
Tumblr media
I think the light from the doorway is the light the patients mentioned seeing from the operating room, so I don't think this is the light of heaven. I think Tyme will survive, but Great is wearing white all the time which the patient said she thought were angels but were actually nurses, but . . . like . . .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once a character wears white, chances of death increase because blood shows up well on white or something, but also Great's powers are pulling him to Tyme which we saw with him being kicked back so he would accept Tyme's dinner request, so all roads are leading him to Tyme, so is Great the angel who is supposed to save Tyme or even sacrifice himself for Tyme?
Tumblr media
Once again, as much as I think Tyme is on that table, it makes sense that Great is being operated on because we keep seeing the light over him as if he was on the operating table!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(There is also another theory about the light but I don't have time for that)
Tumblr media
So what I'm trying to say with my cork board and sticky notes is that even though the show is being framed through Great's perspective, the most important character is Tyme since he is the one who needs to make it out of limbo, so Great has to make him see the light.
Tumblr media
(Also, I think this woman is connected to Tyme)
Tumblr media
TLDR: It's about Tyme
Tumblr media
And Great needs to save him.

WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH PHEE?
(and other equally puzzling things)
An EXTREMELY EXTENSIVE Post-Episode 10 Analysis/Theory
So, okay. Episode 10 was A LOT. Like... A LOT, A LOT. And a lot of this lot seems... Weird as fuck. So many odd choices were made in the narrative.
Top's drugged manipulation; White pulling info about shrooms out of his ass; Fluke becoming a victim of involuntary drug abuse ghosts of his past and begging for mercy after "all he did to Non"... But nothing beats Phee's OOC moments in ep.10 while he's alone with Jin.
Which is what compels me to make this post. Because this series has been nothing but the richness of detail and now suddenly... It's all over the place? Call it wishful thinking (or Last Twilight trauma) but I don't think so. And it mostly comes down to: Phee. And whatever his "agenda" is.
Tumblr media
PS: All screenshots of the show I use (and I will use a lot) will have been brightened because this show is FUCKING DARK, BOYYYYYY and I don't think y'all deserve to force your sight at 3AM to enjoy my posts.
WHAT HAPPENS AND WHY IT'S SUSPICIOUS
So? What does Phee say and do when he's alone with Jin in ep.10 and why am I suspicious of it?
It's hard to say for sure. But we can base ourselves off of 3 things: what we hear him say, what Jin replies to him and the flashbacks (no, they're not just there to fill in time for this very short episode, they serve a narrative purpose).
So let's do this analysis following the order in which things are shown to us, shall we?
First of all, we get a short flashback. The events are as follows:
Phee and New go to see the gang's film
New approaches Phee and they talk
New and Phee decide to try and figure out what happened to Non by infiltrating the group
New and Phee join the gang's school and start asking questions
Jin decides to leave Thailand
New suggests going to Por's mansion for the goodbye party
Phee questions New in the lab about his decisions
New suggests using their homemade drug on the group as a truth serum
Phee asks if the drug is deadly and New denies it
Although we don't hear Phee tell this to Jin, Jin does reply very angrily something along the lines of "and you just let him carry on with it? why didn't you stop him? what the fuck is wrong with y'all???", so we can assume we've been shown what Phee told him.
So far, it's very unsuspicious. We've been shown these events before in the actual flashbacks so we can be fairly sure all of that is true.
It starts to get suspicious, however, when Phee replies to him: "There's so much more that you don't understand. About Non, and Tan".
And I think Jin feels the vibe too because, the man standing on his tall pillar of morality and righteousness /s, says he'll give Phee another chance to cut the bullshit and tell him everything. And so Phee sighs and the dreaded narration of ✨New's Murderous Adventures✨ starts.
So Phee tells Jin (and consequently us) that:
Phee and New set up a bunch of cameras to spy on the gang
New drugged the drinks
It was supposed to end when everyone was high at the party but New didn't follow the plan
New deleted the camera files
Phee kept drugging the group
Por's injury wasn't an accident but a trap that he thinks New set
New's drug enhances people's inner fears
Phee "never thought New would be so cruel with Uncle Dang"
New drugged Top at the temple
New must've left the hard disk for White to find
By the time he figured New's plan, there was nothing he could do about it (and we see him looking distressed at New's arrival at the house)
Now, here we have some interesting things. Let me list them for you.
Why would Phee keep drugging the group after Por got hurt?? If, as he claims, he didn't mean for people to get hurt, why would he keep people on drugs while a man is dying on the couch? Especially when the guy you're on a revenge mission with is ELIMINATING THE CONTENT OF THE CAMERA RECORDINGS!! That sure isn't gonna help anyone survive!
How does Phee know about Top??? He and Jin never saw Top arrive at the house. For all they know, that bro is lost in the woods. Right??
HOW THE FUCK DOES HE KNOW WHITE GOT THE HARD DRIVE??? There's no signal in the woods. We've established that. When White tells Tee and New about his actions they're ALONE. The only other person there is LITERALLY THE MASKY (I'm calling the masked person that for convenience, it's shorter. besides, it seems the fandom has been calling them that anyways, so... yeah). So how does he know? How does he know???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in that same fucking sequence: THE MASKY TRIES TO HURT NEW!!! But if New told Top to hurt everyone who hurt Non, why would he hurt him??? And why, my friends, WHY would he SAVE TEE, when he's the only witness of those events??? It would be so easy to just say the masky killed Tee and he couldn't save him... Is it 4D chess??? Is it a different masky??? Or, is it simply not true that New did that?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's very confusing, weird and suspicious. But let's wait it out, guys, because there's more to PheeJin in the temple.
After this odd-ass narration, they're back to having a convo. Which goes as follows:
Jin (very validly) asks Phee what the fuck is wrong with him and New
Phee says he'd never allow them to go if he knew New was going for murder instead of just confessions ("you can hate me if you want but I never wanted anyone to get hurt, I swear" or whatever he said)
Jin asks if Tan is New and Phee is Non's boyfriend
Phee confirms Jin's suspicions and even adds that "p'New came back from England"
Jin asks if they ever saw the group as their friends
Phee says they wanted to infiltrate the group to find the truth because they didn't know shit about what happened to Non and it's haunting them (good choice of words there, very subtle /s)
Phee explains his motivation, stating he told Non to "get lost and die"
Jin confesses to recording the child grooming revenge porn tape and posting it on Twitter (-_-)
Jin explains his motivation, saying he respected Non's relationship (by constantly making moves on him?) but couldn't stand him cheating on Phee (so he one-upped him by committing not one but two actual severe crimes?)
Phee appears to be mad and disgusted so he says "Fuck. So we both were the ones who hurt Non?", gets up and starts pacing (oh no! the big boy is angy~~~ /s)
Jin gets up like a sad wet cat
Phee randomly finds an axe and takes some exposition out of his ass by stating "this must be Tan's axe that he keeps as a spare. But it's good"
Phee breaks the gate
So by this point Phee's whole speech sounds a bit insane, considering the type of person we've seen he is. Not to mention he just INSTANTLY calms down upon finding an axe and just decides to move on. Like ??? Excuse me??? If that ain't weird then idk what is. Like, sure, Phee is a very confusing and confused character (as better explored by @crysta1ized in this post). He seems to have his heart divided between many things and they could all be pulling at his strings there. HOWEVER, we have to remember Phee's also THIS guy:
Tumblr media
Does this look like the kind of person who would just move on after a (perceived) treason? Does he??
And, the thing about this is that it gets worse.
After the scene cuts back from the house, Pheejin are lost in the damn woods (parallels to New and Tee? mayhaps, man, mayhaps...) These are the events there:
Phee is back to supporting Jin's weight with his body while they walk (which makes no fucking sense bc Jin hurt his SHOULDER which is a part of his UPPER BODY so there's no reason why he couldn't walk on his own but okay, sure)
They make no progress walking for a while, even despite trying to mark the places they've already been at
Jin is very upset that Phee's not very good at navigating through unknown forests at night
Phee, however, is very understanding and says: "Jin. I told you that I would be the one who would protect you. So I'll get you out of here" then PROCEEDS TO HOLD HANDS with him and continues with: "Right now, our friends are waiting for us to help them. So, you must stay strong. Believe in me"
Jin nods (because, despite trying to play the apathetic bitch, he's a softie and very much has feelings™)
PheeJin finally find the exit of the fucking forest
DO Y'ALL SEE HOW SOMETHING'S VERY WRONG WITH PHEE HERE??? Bro's not just acting weird (that would be fine, we love weirdos. *looks at New and winks* <3), he's abnormal. He's not acting like himself.
So, before I jump into trying to make some sense out of all of this, I'll just add the last scene of PheeJin alone in ep.10, last anyone come tell me I missed it:
They're arriving at the mansion
Jin falls down
Phee abandons the axe to help him
I don't think this one is particularly relevant to analyse Phee's character in this episode (although the axe is certainly relevant for other plots and our dear 9th person) but it's there. After this, they're back in the house with everyone and Por's rotting corpse.
PHEE IS HIDING THINGS
So what the fuck happened, really? Well, a lot. Some are easier, I think, to interpret, some aren't but regardless, there was a lot going on with Phee. To make this very complex thing a bit easier to understand, I'll start from the things I think are a bit easier to explain and/or are more solid and then I'll move from there towards the rest of this mess. Okay? Ok- (gets shot bc I hate John Green).
One thing for me that's nearly set in stone is that Phee, at the very least, isn't telling Jin everything. If he was, then the flashbacks would've started with PheeNon's falling love montage but they don't. They start at the cinema. Plus, Jin has to ask if Phee is Non's boyfriend and Tan is New, like he's piecing things by himself. If Phee had told him that, he wouldn't need to ask. AND Phee would've have referred to New as New during his whole monologue but he did not. He kept saying "Tan". He only started doing so after Jin asked the question and he confirmed Tan was New.
Tumblr media
Curiously enough, he also never mentions the antidote he knows exists and KNOWS New brought along. And that neither of them ever used on the others.
The million-dollar question here is then, naturally: why? Various reasons, I believe.
1st of all I think we have to account for the feels. Phee is definitely in a weird ass zone with Jin but it's something. And he feels that something (whatever it is. believe me I could make an entire post about that shit, it's so fucking complex, man, and it only gets worse this episode). He likes Jin, even if he tries not to or if he dislikes that he likes him. It's undeniable. So yes, of course, he doesn't want Jin to hate his guts more than necessary.
But also... We cannot forget why Phee himself is there: to find out what happened to Non. And what does he get out of the conversation he has with Jin? That's right. A confession.
Now, I don't think it's the confession he expected if his reactions are anything to go by:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean... If this is not the face of a man thinking "well, shit", then idk what it is. And also because, idk if it's a subtitle error or not, but he seems to ask "what did you three do?" when he's inquiring about the events of the past, so...
Tumblr media
Someone is being excluded.
Still, I think it's super possible he was hoping to get something out of it. After all, even if he assumes Jin is innocent in his actions, I don't think he's excluding him from having knowledge of what went down. That would make his positive bias even sillier.
So yeah, sure, I bet Phee feels genuinely guilty and it hurts him to be in the situation he's in and he definitely wants to be in a good place in terms of his relationship with Jin, especially because, as he said, he doesn't know if they can get out of the temple. But also... As Ta (Phee's actor) himself said in an interview: Phee can be really manipulative (I can't find the damn interview rn but, during my search, I found @raelle-writing had also mentioned it in this post, so I think it's enough to say I didn't dream that shit). You know... 2 things can be true at once.
Which brings me to the next part:
PHEE IS LYING
That whole talk of "I never thought he would hurt you", "if I had known I wouldn't have let you come", blah, blah, blah. That's some major BULLSHIT.
Phee knew exactly what New was capable of. At least, on a subconscious level. After all, if my friends started being murdered, my 1st assumption would not be that my best friend did it. Unless, of course, my best friend was spiralling down to madness, constantly using drugs to see his dead brother and answering shit like this:
Tumblr media
With a smirk on, when I ask him if the absynthe is gonna kill our friends. Because yeah, sure, I guess the green won't kill them. But you can't tell me this motherfucker wouldn't. He definitely would. And if we can infer that, so does Phee, who has been living with him as his close friend for the last 3 years.
In fact, the very fact that he feels the need to ask whether or not the drugs will kill the gang is proof enough that he, to some extent and, whether or not he's aware of it, KNOWS that's, at least, a possibility. Knows that's something New would do.
So yeah, he's perhaps not just lying to Jin (but also to himself) or not intentionally lying, but he's lying nevertheless. Phee knew this was a possibility. He knew New was capable of stuff like that. And when he pieces the story together, that's him admitting, even if no one realizes, that he knew it. And that he let it happen, in fact, because he never tried to stop the drugging. Or talked to New about what was going on (you'd think if he had that he would've told Jin in that situation). His biggest weapon is his knowledge and he chose not to swing the sword sooner. How very Fluke of him, isn't it? Especially because now 2 people are dead and that's on New, right? Right???
Not necessarily.
NEW IS NOT A MURDERER (initially)
You see, for all we see New is fine with death and murder in episodes 9 and 10, he makes it clear his nº1 goal is to figure out what happened to Non when he gets in front of a fucking firearm to harass Tee into talking.
Tumblr media
So why would he talk Top into murder? Why would Top attack him?? Why would he kill Uncle Dang?? And why, on the goddamn Earth, would he eliminate the recordings in the house when his whole motivation is
Tumblr media
(Thank you, hallucination Non <3) to expose them??? Especially when the only other person who knew about the hidden cameras was Phee. It makes no sense! Sure, he might've contemplated the murder, but on a later phase of the plan, I think. The priority was, always, to get them to confess on camera so he could later use the recordings to expose them to the country and clear Non's image. 'Cause we cannot forget, while the people close to Non don't buy the bullshit TV news sensationalist story (and, therefore, are searching for the truth), the rest of the country thinks Non is a slut who ran away with mafia money and his teacher (because, like @delululover explains in this post: Asian culture tends to normalize grooming of older teens and even blame them for the situation).
So what are we seeing when Phee narrates the events? Well, probably just Phee's guesses.
He thinks New is deranged and has drugs and that Top is missing and now they're being attacked by this person, who is conveniently wearing a mask. So he guesses that's Top. Plus, he doesn't know New was attacked by Masky in the middle of the forest.
He knows, like everyone else, that New had the hard drive. And, when Top and New go out in the woods with the bike he remains in the house. So, it's possible he saw the hard drive there where New left it before he went out.
Tumblr media
And, because the only 2 people remaining in the house, as far as Phee knows, are Fluke and White, and New DEFINITELY wouldn't want the drive to get into Fluke's hands, he must've assumed New wanted White to find it (which may or may not be true but it's irrelevant, I think).
And, yes, calm down, I can hear you scream: "But how did he know White watched the video???" And the answer I bring you is very simple: he didn't. He has no idea. And the best part is: you only think he knows because you know. But Phee never says that. He says New left the hard drive there for White to find. And that's it. He never mentions a video whatsoever.
Now, is it convoluted? Yes. Absolutely. But we have to think this is Phee we're talking about. He's the guy who always thinks he has the upper hand (a.k.a thinking he can save Non or that he's not falling in Love with Jin). It's almost impossible for him to think he's in the dark as to what is happening to them. After all, in his narrative of his life, he is the hero. And, I know, lots of people in the fandom see it that way as well, so... It's not impossible to imagine that's what the story is trying to sell us. It's trying to make us believe Phee knows. When in reality, I think, it's more likely that Phee's the embodiment of this meme:
Tumblr media
Okay. But then if New didn't do it, then who did? Because something is obviously going on with Top, right? And Uncle Dang IS very much dead. So what the fuck is that all about?
THE SECRET 9TH PERSON? ENTITY? THING?
As discussed several times by several people in this fandom, there's a very high possibility that there's someone else with them in the woods.
@blmpff points out the existence of various versions of the mask here. @subtextsays points out the crutches in the bathroom scene with Top here. There's this shit:
Tumblr media
Whatever it fucking means (besides the fact that it gives me the hibbie jibbies). Someone is also obviously taking care of the Janta cult because there's fresh food in the offerings.
Tumblr media
@raelle-writing also points out here that New is also seeing stuff even though our favourite insane motherfucker has got (and has been using!) the antidote.
And, as of episode 10, as @babyangelsky pointed out in this post, when PheeJin are lost in the damn woods, the cuts on the wood Phee supposedly make keep changing.
Tumblr media
Which makes both of us question if they're all the same cut or even all done by Phee.
So, I think this is enough to speculate Phee could very much just be misinterpreting the whole thing and attributing guilt to New when, in fact, someone else has been causing the deaths.
Now you may question who and that's all very fair. You should even. But that is not what this post is about and, frankly, thank god, because this is already a monstrous creation.
So let's pick these cuts in the wood and use it as a segway to the last part of this, shall we?
PHEE IS AS BENEVOLENT AS A GREEK GOD
So Phee's mad. Super mad. He's passing around and cursing.
Jin, the only person he probably genuinely thought didn't do anything, is the one who recorded and posted the video.
And then Phee finds an axe. And, suddenly, Phee changes. Why?
Well, we have to look at it with what urges Phee to talk in the first place (besides his feelings and his wants): Phee is losing hope. He states it himself that he doesn't think they're going to be able to get out of the temple. So, he talks. Sure, he doesn't say everything but it's the closest to being honest with Jin we've ever seen him be.
And then their whole reality changes. Because Phee found an axe. And it all comes down on him: they are going to get out of there. And what now?
As @yellingaboutkp states in this post Phee is not only hard to read for us or confusing to the other characters (Jin mainly). He's also hard to read and confusing to himself: "...is Phee still playing Jin? It seems like he's trying to, but the more time he spends with Jin, the harder it's getting to stick to the plan."
Thus, what we see at the end of their time in the temple and alone in the woods is a mix of things, I believe.
Phee needs to feel like he's in control again. And with the original plan being ruined and Jin knowing too much (and there's no way he's not gonna speak, in fact, it's the very first thing he does when they arrive at he house) he's simply not. So when he tells Jin everything is gonna be alright, he's also trying to tell that to himself. He's trying to reassure himself that they're gonna get out of that huge mess. And, perhaps, in saving Jin also finding some redemption because, according to his own narration of the events, he let New go too far (as Jin points out).
Phee also knows more now. And maybe, if he was able to get Jin to speak once, without even having to force anything out of him. who knows if he cannot do it a second time in front of the cameras they've set inside the house? So he's trying to follow the script and manipulate him into trusting him, like he always has been trying to do. Except this time he's more bitter about it. And this, alongside with reason 1, is why these two scenes feel so different:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly: Phee knows the catastrophic effects his words and actions had on Non when they broke up. He knows the consequences of his rage. It's the entire reason why he's there. Because he failed at being a good boyfriend the 1st time. Does he really want that to happen again? Does he want to fail Jin too? There's a reason (besides the story itself and his need to justify himself to Jin) why we see that flashback of his break-up with Non in this episode. And I believe this is it. (so yeah, I understand it might be frustrating to see Phee be more benevolent to Jin who fucked up big time than Non who didn't do anything, it is EXACTLY because he wasn't benevolent to Non that Jin is getting princess treatment)
So, in conclusion: Phee is fucking confused. And it carries on being that way for the rest of the episode. Phee calls New out but he doesn't seem to care too much about Por being dead on the couch. He helps Jin on the ground, but he doesn't say a thing about Fluke pointing a gun at Tee. Sure, he does ask for the gun at a certain point but isn't that just more of Phee's desperate need to get control back?
And we see this all come down to the preview of the next episode and what it's probably going to mean:
Tumblr media
Phee finally has got things under his control again. But this means, surprise, surprise, that Phee's gotta make a choice: to shoot (and stand on New's side) or not to shoot (and stand on the gang's side). Which, of course, metaphorically is a choice, in good romance and BL fashion, between 2 lovers: Non and Jin. But also, in good storytelling, as, once again, @raelle-writing (can't help myself, Rae's posts are FIRE 🔥🔥 sksksksksks) explores better in this post: a choice between the past and the present; continuing to drown in grief and a wish for revenge or choosing to move on and heal.
And, as I (YES, if I'm gonna tag a bunch of people and their works, YOU BET, I'm gonna link my own stuff) explore in this post about White's identity and role in the story (and other people in the fandom have commented as well), I'm inclined to believe he's gonna pick the gang, Jin, the present, healing. Because this is a story about the damage caused by cycles of violence and grief. And a story about how, the only way to stop them, is to choose not to participate in them by letting go.
(and also because we already have characters who represent different choices like Non, who was always stuck in the future because he kept getting deeper and deeper into shit, thinking tomorrow would be better; or New, who is very obviously stuck in the past, unable to let go of the things he didn't do, the things he didn't prevent and only ends up losing more and more as a consequence)
CONCLUSION
Thank you for your time and attention. Feel free to comment and discuss this with me. And I'll see you either on my next long-ass monologue or next Saturday as we watch episode 11!
All the love 💜💜💜
PS: Shout-out to the group chat, including, but not limited to: @ayansbff, @cyberstalking and @squishysquadstuff who have listened to me ranting about this post since Saturday and told me to eat when I was too focused on writing it. Your patience was fundamental in carrying me through this monstrous project (it took me 10 hours to write all this) 💜💜💜.

Alright, folks, now that we have gotten the first 3 episodes, I believe it is time to revisit the gorgeous posters of a few months back and see what clues they might include. Many people believe there are two timelines in the show and I believe the posters confirm that. A timeline in which Dome lives and a timeline in which Dome dies. Let's see what the posters may say about that: 1st clue: Dome and Tonkla are the only ones facing the right -> possible proof Dome is Tonkla's younger brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone else is facing the left.... ...except Win. Win is the only one facing the front.
Tumblr media
I believe this can mean two things: either it's related to his job OR he's connected to both timelines - one Dome is alive and one Dome is dead (though that might be impossible, so take it with a grain of salt). 2nd clue: Speaking of Win, both his and Title's poster have the exact same shape of light on them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, in my opinion this could mean two things: Title is one of the victims (current or future - never forgetting the Tonkla scene in ep2) or Title was the one who threatened Win to stop prying in ep3. Or both. 3rd clue: Both Title's and Korn's posters have them not facing the camera, opposed to everyone else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first, I thought it had something to do with them possibly not being involved in any of the supernatural elements of the show, aka never learning about it or it never influencing them, but I don't think that's true. Title is the one who kills Dome in one timeline and doesn't kill Dome in the other, and Korn knows about Great's condition from Great himself. So, I think this means these two will die. If Title is the one Tonkla kills in ep2, then that would make sense. As for Korn, this man has so many death flags, the real surprise would be if he survives by the end, honestly. I'm preparing the tears in advance just for you, sugar daddy. I could also say stuff about the shapes of the light hitting the characters, but I have nothing intelligent to say about that aspect of the posters, so I'll leave it at that for now. Hopefully the next eps will give us more clues.

the fact that fluke put out his own eyes is so smart and symbolic.
he’s the (only) one who saw everything, therefore knows everything.
but his guilt ended up eating him alive, like tee, so he put them out so he couldn’t see anything that would put him in this position again.
damn, he got his eyes privileges revoked!

Thanks so much for this! Great run down!
I'm also wondering about the moment where Masky is seen in the woods after Top and Tee head back. They turn around to run and the camera pans to the woods. We see Masky before he flickers and disappears. Since Top and Tee are booking it, this is clearly just for us as an audience. So I'm wondering if this is the show trying to put us in the same mindset, like we're hallucinating too. Or if there's something else going on there. It can't be a person if it flickers like that but it's not a hallucination of one of the characters either.
How much is hallucination and how much is real?
I almost touched on this in my post where I posit that Non is the killer but I didn't wanna go off on a tangent and make that post even longer than it ended up being.
Now that it has been canonically and explicitly established that what's scaring these boys isn't something supernatural, I wanted to go through and determine how much of what they see/hear is them hallucinating and how much could potentially be real.
Spoiler: it's not as cut and dry as you'd think.
Jin hears chanting when he's up on the balcony with Phi that Phi does not hear. I feel confident saying this is just an auditory hallucination.
Tumblr media
The next two people to have hallucinations are Tee and Top when they're riding through the woods to get help for Por.
Tee sees a figure wielding what looks like an axe.
Tumblr media
And Top sees the now infamous figure on crutches.
Tumblr media
Once again, I'm fairly confident that what Tee saw was a hallucination but with Top, I'm not sure. And this is where it starts getting harder to draw a line between hallucination and reality.
We see the figure on crutches a second time when Top is in the bathroom. He starts having his hallucination and a candle beside the sink falls off the counter and shatters, spreading broken glass all over the floor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, when Tee and the boys break into the bathroom a short while later?
Tumblr media
There's no broken glass on the floor. However, note that there also isn't a candle beside the sink anymore. There's three options here. One, it's just a continuity error. Two, there never was a candle beside the sink. Three, the candle on the sink was part of the hallucination, as was it falling and shattering.
Line's getting blurred isn't it? Stay with me here, because the sequence of these next three events is important.
In the first of these events, White is in the bathroom doing his skincare routine and hallucinates plague on his skin.
Tumblr media
At the same moment, he looks into the mirror and sees a masked figure reflected in the mirror behind him.
Tumblr media
He turns to look out the window and the figure is gone. Then he turns back to the mirror and the plague is gone, so we know the plague was definitely a hallucination.
In the second event, Fluke is with Por and the door behind the couch opens.
Tumblr media
He gets up to close it and when he turns back to the couch, he sees Por with blood pouring out of his eyes and hallucinates that Por strangles him.
While he's being "strangled" we see the masked figure standing behind the couch.
Tumblr media
It's unclear if Fluke saw the figure since his eyes were squinting and started to close as he struggled with Por. Regardless, we know for a fact that the strangling was a hallucination.
In the third event, which happens in the very next scene, we see New searching for the hard drive.
Tumblr media
And this is where I thank @respectthepetty for reminding me they watch shows on mute and inadvertently sending me down this rabbit hole because at the very moment I captured in the screenshot above, New has an auditory hallucination.
He hears chanting and screaming just like Jin did on the balcony and as this hallucination is happening?
Tumblr media
A masked figure walks past the stairs. These two things happen almost simultaneously so it's very hard to tell whether New looked up from the box he was searching because of the chanting or because he caught movement out of the corner of his eye.
And again, we know it was an auditory hallucination because when he rejoins the group, he asks this:
Tumblr media
These three events happening one after the other--the figure White saw, the figure just inside the door while Fluke was being strangled, and the figure walking past the stairs--lead me to believe that the figure was not a hallucination.
I think Non (or whoever) was skulking around outside, was seen by White, and then made his way around to where Fluke was. He opened the door and when he realized Fluke was hallucinating, he slipped inside the house and he was seen by New.
The plague, the strangling, and the chanting were hallucinations, but they happened to coincide with a masked figure actually entering the house.
There are two more instances which I am fairly certain are NOT hallucinations.
After Uncle Dang gets decapitated by the wire and Tee and Top take his bike, Tee sees a masked figure in the woods. (Also worth noting that this time, they ride off in the opposite direction because of the wire, away from potential escape)
Tumblr media
I couldn't quite manage to capture it on the exact frame, but the figure isn't just there when the camera pans to it. They were crouched in the bushes and popped up when they saw the boys coming.
My confidence is shakier on the second instance, which is also the last time we see a masked figure before shit goes down at the temple.
When New and Top are riding through the woods, Top sees a figure wielding an axe and throwing it at them.
Tumblr media
Although the figure is already there when the camera pans to it this time, Top sees it before it raises the axe to throw it.
Tumblr media
Although we can't quite tell how far away the figure was from the spot where the bike fell over, we don't see it on the ground. We also don't see it later when the boys come to investigate where Top went. All we know is that there is an axe, because Top (or Non) attacks the boys with it when they're in the temple.
The only other hallucination of note after this point is Jin seeing bloody Keng in the temple but I do feel confident saying that one wasn't real, especially since he sees bloody Keng again when Phi gives him the spiked water.
If you made it this far, thank you, I love you. I know this was very long but the curiosity simply would not leave me alone. As soon as drugs were put on the table, I just had to know if all the hallucinations were real and as it turns out, it's a very mixed bag.
I hope you don't mind me tagging you for the second time in one day @slayerkitty 💜

Phee supposedly doesn't hear anything when him and Jin are outside during the first episode prior to anything happening, and then a while later, he doesn't see what Jin does. This makes people think it is supernatural, but to the contrary, I think it proves that it's not. I think Phee is a part of the plan. He also sees Nons face on the movie in the beginning and still acted like he didn't know Non.
Also, the hand that was on Tee may very well be the teacher because we already know the teacher had some sort of interest in Tee. A minute before this, White pointed out that there was something in the bushes. It would make sense for someone dressed as the killer (maybe with painted hands to really portray something scary) snuck over and touched Tee like that with the assumption it would either scare him or he wouldn't notice it wasn't White. I think that if there is a ghost or whatever, it is mostly in their heads. Was it White that saw the burn blisters on himself in the mirror? This makes me feel like he knows something about Non already, and he is imagining it. If it is supernatural, I doubt it is solely supernatural. Also, Phee never seems genuinely scared? Phee is suspicious, but I fully support what the killer is doing. Also, I just can't see Phee surrounding himself with these people for no reason. Also Tan seems like he could be Nons brother. He supposedly is so close to Phee that Jin that they were fwb. And if Phee and Tan got together to figure out what happened to Non, this would make sense. Him and White are wild cards right now. I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Some things noticed on a DFF rewatch
Just some things that stood out rewatching and chatting with folks!
Tumblr media
When we see the knife in the opening, someone puts it in a backpack. The bag is brown on top, and the front has red, a white strip and a star backed with blue
Tumblr media
This is the same backpack Non wears in the past. So is this just part of the clip show or is it giving us a hint? Will Non use the knife in the past and it's reappeared in the present because they're re-enacting things in a way? Or does this mean Non is involved in the present?
Tumblr media
In this post I discussed how Keng the math teacher is not so great at teaching math (via my roommate's math expertise). The answer 1/7 isn't correct, and it's something an online math tool can solve pretty easily so perhaps this is intentional.
Tumblr media
Tee's jacket has 0.17 on it. So between our bad math and this, are the numbers 1 and 7 important? If so are they more symbolic or plot relevant (I'm guessing the former)? 1 and 7 do add up to 8...
Tumblr media
Everyone is accounted for when Top and Tee first see Masky in the woods (everyone else is helping Por) and when Por initially gets chased. However, after Top is attacked in the bathroom Tan and Fluke aren't around. Fluke is with Por, White, and Phi before they hear the commotion. But Phi just says Tan went up stairs to sleep a while ago.
Does this mean Tan was the one attacking Top? If so, he can't be doing it alone since other times everyone is accounted for. Like some other folks have theorized, if it's not supernatural (still not ruling that out) it's likely there's a 9th person involved. Does Tan attack inside the house while our 9th person mostly operates outside?
Tumblr media
If we go with the theory that there's hallucinations happening, there's a lot of ways the boys could've gotten them in their systems. Smoke, in their drinks, in the food or water. In the same closet that White finds the knife, he looks at this bottle. To me it looks like a liquid medicine prescription bottle. Liquid would be very easy to mix into things. Then again, perhaps it's Non's and in the past they hid it from him or something.
Tumblr media
One more theory about the hallucinations. What if it has to do with sound. From a cursory search it does seem that there's some research showing that some infrasound can cause hallucinations and some argue this might be one explanation for why people feel they're being haunted. From what I found (again very cursory research), infrasound can be heard if it's sufficiently loud. I doubt it would be recorded or sound like what they heard from the recording here in real life. But it's possible we could have a fictionalized take on this here.
Tumblr media
Why was the knife left so in the open? Yes it was in a closet but it still seems very staged. Similarly, why cut Por? My first thought is that the person chasing Por didn't plan to impale him. And of course that could just look like an accident. The knife cuts make sure the group knows there's the possibility of someone physically attacking Por. The knife then shows up at the point where Top and Tee are convinced it must be supernatural. It kind of seems like someone wants them to know it's a real person. And of course Phi is also very insistent on this.
Could this mean that Phi's plan was to have them know it was a person? Or does is it just to make them even more panicked and confused? If the former is the case, the hallucinations and/or supernatural appearances aren't in the plan. That could mean that someone or something else is doing things and perhaps working at cross purposes from Phi (still trying to harm them but not how Phi wants to or planned for)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the start of episode 1, Por tells the Janta story and says that his Dad told him it. But in episode 5 it seems like Non comes up with the idea. So is this Por claiming credit again? If so that could mean that the cult doesn't actually exist and just was an idea Non put in the script that Por is playing on. On the other hand, Non could've done his research knowing they wanted to film at Por's vacation home. So does/did the cult exist or not? Or at the very least did the stories of Janta and the cult exist and were they attached to the area around Por's cabin before they did this film?
Tumblr media
Mr Math has on his desk which I believe is of Pythagoras. Now according to my math nerd of a roommate, Pythagoras also started a cult called Pythagoreanism. It's quite the stretch, and I imagine the production just put the photo there to show he is into math, but what if Keng is related to the cult (if it really exists)? I think we're getting into clown connections here, but it's fun to speculate. Especially since it's entirely possible that what Jin saw in the temple was an alive Keng. If Keng is part of the cult perhaps they're aiding Non and/or Phi for some reason 🤡
Alrighty just some thoughts for now fellow DFFers! It's fun to pitch theories, both the more grounded and the much less substantiated 😆

Regarding Lord of the Flies and DFF--
Caveat: I'll start by saying it's been years since I read the Lord of the Flies book or watched the movie, so this will not be an in-depth analysis. Just a few thoughts.
A common theme in dystopian stories is the exploration of human nature's worst aspects. How do humans behave when they are at their worst? After spending four episodes building up the horror in the woods and then four+ episodes building up the "horror" in the backstory, we return to the chaos at the murder house where the friend group is in the midst of turning on each other. The social fabric/friendship that held the group together is quickly disintegrating. Each group members' inherent self-interest and self-centeredness is on full display, and any affectation of friendship is basically gone. Queue the Real World intro: "When people stop being polite and start getting real."
By the end of episode 9, the show felt very dystopian to me. Dystopian but still horror. I couldn't help wondering if we would get a Lord of the Flies ending or a variation of one. For those who are not familiar with Lord of the Flies:
A group of well-breed boys are stranded alone on an island after a plane crash. Over the course of the story, all societal niceties are abandoned, might equals right, and the group ultimately turns on a select group of boys as targets, resulting in one boy killed and another (the protagonist) chased through the woods. The book ends with all the boys coming to the beach to discover that the authorities (the adults!) had arrived to rescue them. (Sorry, I know this is an oversimplification of a fascinating book, but it's been too long since I've read it!)
By a potential Lord of the Flies ending, I'm referring to the possibility that:
The group will turn on one person to hunt them down and kill them. With the episode 9 reveal that Tan is New and that Phee might tell Jin the truth about New's plans, I couldn't help but wonder if New would be the one targeted. When Phee then revealed New's identity to the group in episode 10, I was waiting to see how the group might react. It appears they are not yet at a point of banding together to take down whomever they think the killer is. New better be careful. The group could turn on him now that they know he's there to reveal the truth behind Non's disappearance.
The authorities arrive and bring some semblance of normalcy and decency (and accountability) with their presence a shocking contrast to the remaining members of the group still live at the end (likely in the midst of trying to kill one another).
There are plenty of other potential endings within the dystopian genre, so who knows how things will actually turn out. That said, I can't help but see DFF as a mix of horror and dystopian themes with a clear transition between the first four episodes and the next four/five episodes. The "horror" to be feared changes. Instead of a killer in the house/bogeyman to run from, the horror we find is humanity at its worst, self-centered and cruel.
Both horror and dystopian stories can be very moralistic, and we won't really know what DFF's moral will be until the end.
Fingers crossed the last two episodes will be epic!
DFF Episode 9 Thoughts
I had to take a few days to process episode 9 of Dead Friends Forever because I found my reaction to the show transitioning along with the show's move into the final third.
With confirmation that Tan is New and that New is drugging everyone at the house, I had one prominent thought--It's now time to sit back and watch the story play out. I'm done with speculating on what will happen. The time for theories is over (for me).
Time for honesty--
Do I find Tan being New and New being vengeful a really obvious choice story-wise? Yes. Does that lessen my appreciation of the story? Not really. We've gotten such a great build up to the current situation at the murder house that the Tan/New revelation feels earned.
I care more about the characters revealing the truth to each other in the coming episodes than I do about getting additional background as an audience member. The "truth" is so rich, and I want the drama of the revelations to play out amongst the characters. I want it to be intense and thought-provoking. That would make me very happy. Can you tell I'm glad we're back at the murder house?
The show is starting to feel more dystopian than horror, but I'm okay with the blend of the two genres. Will we get a Lord of the Flies ending instead of a Blair Witch ending? This could be a whole post until itself. Hmm....
I don't know who--if anyone--is going to die in the next three episodes (see #3 above as the potential endings vary greatly based on genre), and I honestly don't care who does die. I find myself not rooting for any character in particular as we head into the final third. I certainly find some characters more interesting than others, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be heart broken over any of the them dying.
Please note--I see these characters as exactly that--characters. I would not in real life be so cold-hearted if these were real people.
Also, I obviously am still speculating a little bit. *hahahaha* This show, man. What can I say?

Phee is part of the reason Non disappeared
I noticed this recently and it just solidified on rewatching the show. The reason that Non was made to disappear was because Uncle Joe was convinced Non was a spy. And the two reasons he names for thinking Non is a spy are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two reasons he listed are because Non was able to repay the thousands of baht he'd taken from a client... and because he got the case from the police against him dropped.
And who is the reason that Non got that case dropped?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phee. Phee interfered in the case and implicated himself, making his father drop the case against all of the teens involved. All to protect Non. But in doing that act of protection, Phee actually put Non in more danger...
There's probably something to be read into this. Phee's style of love being all wrong for Non. The two of them making things worse for each other instead of better.
But honestly mostly I just find it tragic... I hope Phee never knows what part he played in Non's disappearance. He likely carries enough guilt from his final words to Non already.
